Size and Fit

Enabled customers to save, edit, and filter their size and fit preferences during discovery, helping them find the right items faster

This feature addresses a common frustration—finding items they want that aren’t available in their size. By enabling faster filtering based on saved sizes, it personalizes the shopping experience, reduces frustration, and helps customers find the right fit more quickly throughout their product discovery journey.

40% highly engaged customers expect to filter their sizes faster while shopping

What led us to reimagine size and fit?

The top customer problem, with an 82% impact score from Customer Research Insight, is that customers have a hard time finding items that fit because many products they want are not available in their desired size and color. This highlights a gap between having a saved size and fit but not being able to use it while shopping.

Filters are confusing and hard to use

The current size filter layout is overwhelming, making it hard for customers to quickly scan and select their size. Even when customers save their size preferences, the filters don't reflect on the filter leading to frustration and a lack of trust in the feature.

Gap in personalized Size and Fit

Customers struggle to find items in their saved size and fit because product results aren’t personalized, contributing to $474M in lost revenue in 2023 . This highlights a critical gap between having a saved size and fit and being able to leverage it effectively while shopping.

Empower to shop by their saved sizes

Customers with saved sizes are more engaged and drive higher demand, highlighting the value of a personalized size-based shopping experience

Empower customers to filter and browse products by their saved sizes by helping them shop what’s available and avoid disappointment when items aren’t in stock. Customers with saved sizes are among our most engaged, driving 56.9% of sessions and 51.9% of total demand. Giving them the ability to easily save and update their sizes while browsing makes filtering even more seamless and personalized

Challenges and Solutions

Connecting across multiple touchpoints while staying technically feasible

Parterned with engineers, designers, and PMs to prioritize key use cases, like broad searches (“All Sale”) versus specific ones (“cocktail dress”), and connect them to saved sizes without disrupting the shopping flow.

We designed cohesive moments to surface the Size & Fit feature during discovery (search, browse, filter) to boost awareness and adoption. Early testing showed customers valued saving sizes but often didn’t know it existed, so we added subtle touchpoints that made it easier to find and use without breaking their flow.

Customers wanted to save sizes easily without disrupting the shopping flow

In addition, customers value the feature but weren’t always aware the feature existed. The early testing helped us design subtle, touchpoints across the shopping flow making it easy for users to discover, manage, and benefit from their saved sizes without disrupting their shopping experience. Making this work was a big challenge because we need to connect backend logic to how customers actually discover products.

Customers expected sizes saved in account to work seamlessly when shopping

Usability testing and customers sentiment showed that customers expect their saved sizes to work seamlessly, especially since they rarely use filters on their own.
This insight helped us narrow which key moments matter so customers can manage their sizes without disrupting their shopping flow.

Learnings and Next Steps

Partnered with PM and cross-functional teams to align priorities and drive progress across key touchpoints

I partnered with the PM to craft a roadmap and created a feature list capturing impact and effort so Engineering, PM, and UX could align on priorities. With many stakeholders across touchpoints like discovery, account, and product page, I learned the importance of involving the right people early to ensure alignment and run effective meetings that drive progress
